NetFlow

Why do Solarwinds charge for the Netflow add-on based on the Orion license you have so we would have to pay around £7k for Netflow SLX when we only have 5 * 6500 chasis that support NetFlow?

This has forced us to go and get Scrutinizer @ £1,500 and have to try and integrate as best we can. We would of loved to keep everything under the Orion banner but can't justify the cost.

Bingo..same feelings and action exactly. We would have liked to have had everything under Orion but went with Scrutinizer. We have all Orion monitors but Netflow.

We are looking into integrating our existing Scrutinizer 5.5 with Orion 8.5.1. I assume you gentlemen did that??? how did that work out ? I saw some older posts from last year but was wondering if more recent experiences like yours might provide any insights before I start down this road.

I've just installed Scrutenizer this week and integrated it with Orion pretty easily. They even have a doc on their webpage to show you ways to tie Orion in with Scrutenizer. Seems to work pretty good so far for me at least and a very small investment, plus supports Sflow + Netflow.

Don't lose sleep on this. I have NetFlow for Orion and everything I see is that Orion can't handle the amount of NetFlow traffic in larger environments. Users see large increases in DB size which leads to turning down the retention of the data, etc. We had all sorts of issues with space and functionality. We have moved back to NetQoS for the time being. NFM 3.0 is in beta but I still don't have a warm fuzzy about it.
