We have recently purchased the Orion Application Performance Monitor to replace ipMonitor. In ipMonitor each monitor was in a group that determined if it should suppress or send a triggered alert based on the time of day. If it was in the 6-6 group we would only receive those alerts from 6 AM to 6 PM. If it were in the 6-10 group it would only send those alerts from 6 AM to 10 PM. And there was a 24/7 group that would send alerts at all hours if triggered.
I am finding it difficult to accomplish this with APM. I have migrated all of our monitors from ipMonitor to APM. I created groups in Orion and placed each alert into the groups accordingly only to find out I cannot check the applications status and group membership in the same alert. My next thought was to create a custom attribute on each Application monitor and I found that this is not possible. Using the node custom attributes will not work because I have nodes with multiple applications monitors and I don't want each monitor on the node to alert at the same time.
I finally caved and entered a support ticket. After getting across exactly what I wanted I was informed that the only way to accomplish my goal was to use a SQL based custom alert. They also said that they do not support custom alerts. That is why I am posting here.
It is extremely frustrating to know that we paid for a new product that doesn't support a simple feature that can be easily configured in ipMonitor.
Does anyone have any ideas for me?
