Why does my node status show down, even though, I can ping it and download the config file for the device? I have tried to rediscover and poll it. Do I need to just delete it and re-add it to get the NCM to show the correct status?
Is this device configured to have it's availability and response times calculated via SNMP? If so, check if you can get to the device from the managing polling engine over SNMP (snmpwalk.exe, found within the SolarWinds install directory, will allow you to do this better than a simple TELNET test on port 161).
I expect that if the device is up and and pingable from the polling engine, then you'll need to list resources on the node and swap availability and response time back to ICMP to cure the node down problem you're having.
silverbacksays is most likely correct, although many people have problems figuring out where to make this change.
If you bring up a Node Details for the device and go to "List Resources". When its done discovering resources, you want to make sure that "Status & Response Time" is set to "ICMP (Ping) - Fastest" and not "SNMP".
