AppInsight for AD - Views

Hello - with SAM 6.8 AppInsight for Active Directory is it possible to get the following widgets into a Summary or NOC view (rather than only drilling down into a node applications view):

Replication Summary
Domain Controller Details
Site Details
*any overall LDAP metrics that are not necessarily node-specific

It seems like those are not node-specifc, but I can't seem to add them into any other view types. Am I missing something?

You can add any individual SAM component widget to a summary view. (I forget the object you need to add - custom something. Don't do what I did years ago and use an HTML object with an iframe!)

The above option means you need to redo your views when you add or subtract an AD server, however.

The other alternative is to add a table or chart using SQL/SWQL to populate it. With creative queries and html, you can pretty much build anything on those.

frak - thanks for the reply. I still can't find it from the normal widget options. Nothing seems to work. Anyone from SolarWinds care to chime in? I may have to open a ticket. I'll look into the SWQL option - never really used it so far.

I checked with a senior SAM Support rep who explained that some widgets (formerly called "resources") rely on data coming from certain tables. If a specific view cannot provide the data, you can't add the widget.

Hi there,

This widget is dependent on data that is available at a node level, so that's why you're unable to add this to a summary view. However, this is a great use case that we'd love to grab feedback from you on. jvb in particular will be interested to know what types of data you're planning on putting this widget side by side with on your NOC view.

What I was referring to was a Custom Object Resource.

On my AD Summary page I have used the Custom Object Resource to add widgets for the following (with results):

AD - Domain Controller Details (looks same as widget on individual domain controller node with AppInsight for AD)
AD- Replication Summary (only shows replication between replication nodes associated with the DC node that I had to choose in the Custom Object - not all replication that this very same widget shows at the node level)
AD - Site Details (nothing, no data. Choosing object type=AppInsight for Active Directory:Applications, Object = Active Directory on a DC node, object resources = Site Details).

To answer an earlier question. I am trying to create a top level Dashboard with a holistic view of AD performance (without needing to drill down to the Node level AppInsight to get some of the data). Alongside All Applications, Applications with Problems, Health Overview, Failed Replications I'd like to also include widgets for the 3 mentioned above. Especially Replication Summary for all Domain Controllers and Site Details. Ironically, the one I care the least about (Domain Controller Details - i.e. roles) is the one that actually works well as a Custom Object.

I looked at the Custom Object and it was not obvious how to get it to show that. Could you enlighten/screenshot?

Being able to show on a NOC dynamically the FSMO roled servers is a request we have had from our SysAdmin team just this week.
