Greetings to the collective:
I have a request for some help and a question on operations for those that might be kind enough to read on.
First the operations question, regarding the use of Templates versus the Application Monitor. The scenario as it is, I have a number of different windows services that I’m trying to monitor to get an alert notification in case any of these services fail, and I will be able to respond accordingly. If I assign all five services to a template and any of these services fail, will the alert monitor still tell me if one of the services has failed or does it only work as a collective since its part of the template, and it’s the template that I’ve setup to be monitored in the Alert Manager? Would I be better off just monitoring each service separately versus as part of a template and configuring it as such in my Alert Manager?
The vital question I have, based on the above describe possible scenario, As I stated, I’m monitoring the template of the services I want to monitor and I’ve setup an action to email me when any of the services is detected as down, and in my email configuration, I’ve put certain variable to let me know such as the node name, date and time. The pot of gold I’m trying to find out, what is the variable to inform me which service has failed out of the five I’ve configured to be monitored?
Thank You to all for your time and consideration for reading this far.
