APM 2 Template

Ok, I might be dense so I will throw my cares to the wind and enlist the help of the forum....

What I am trying to accomplish is to create a template which will be called Web User Experience. In that I want to have several component monitors to check http and https is working on several sites.

These are just examples

Web User Experience
     http:\\www.cnn.com
     http:\\www.dell.com
     https:\\www.boa.com
     https:\\solarwinds.com

Do I use HTTP Monitor and HTTPS Monitor or do I use Web Link Monitor? Can you add several of these together into one APM? Do you have to assign to a device that is in Orion?

If you just want to verify that the sites are up (you don't want to verify links on the page), then just use an HTTP or HTTPS monitor. If all the URLs are hardcoded (none use the ${IP} variable) then it does not matter which node you assign it to. However, you do still have to assign it to some node. You can pick any node you want.

For the example you gave, you would create an Application Monitor Template that has 2 HTTP monitors and 2 HTTPS monitors. You would then assign this template to one of your nodes.

Is there anyway to just show in APM (report or resource) that would simply show a rollup of availability?

For example:

Web Availability (template name) 100%
   - HTTP (100%)
      - Assigned node 1 (100%)
      - Assigned node 2 (100%)
   - HTTPS (100%)
      - Assigned node 1 (100%)
      - Assigned node 2 (100%)

This way you can add this resource on the page which takes up far less page space and is drillable.

There's a similar report bulit-in report, Applicaiton Availability, but you should be able to quickly build the exact report you're describing in the Report Writer.
