Cirrus Database 12GB after upgrade to NCM 5.0 SP2

We have just under 500 nodes on Cirrus and the DB & backup was always right around 1-2gb. I upgraded to NCM 5.0, applied the HF1, SP1 & SP2 and now the DB is showing a whopping 12GB and growing!

DB Mgr Output:

Total Space Usage: 11.9 Gbytes

Data Space Usage: 1.1 Gbytes

Index Space Usage: 5.67 Mbytes

Free Space Available: 1.13 Mbytes

Transaction Log Size: 11 Mbytes

I tried to compact & it works without errors, but the DB still shows 12GB. Is there something I'm missing or other tools I can run to clean up the obvious dead space in the DB?

Here is the fix as it worked perfectly for me.

Steps:

1) Detach the NCM database from SQL Server Management Studio.

2) Go to the location of transaction log and rename it (don’t delete the file yet!!)

3) Attach the database without the log file. When you do this step make sure you highlight the log file entry in the wizard and remove it.(Final attach would happen only with one file i.e. with the MDF file).

At this point there would be a new log file created by the SQL Server.

4) Delete the log file once the database is attached and you have verified it.

You can try to shrink the database files:

If that does not help, check the files settings, there might be something preventing from shrinking the db under the actual size.

Open SQL Server Management Studio, Right-Click on your DB, select Properties. Click on the Files section.

Check the Autogrowth and Initial Size settings.

Thanks Yann. I tried your suggestion and it seems that my issue is the .ldf file is growing rapidly and not the DB. I'm running this option now & I'll let you know if this helps. Hopefully I'm on the right track.

Your Recovery Model is probably set to FULL which would explain why your transaction log file is growing quite fast. You can either set it to SIMPLE or backup more regularly the Transaction log.

I just checked that & recovery model is set to simple. ?? The cirrus db is 1.2gb & the .ldf is 14gb. Any way to delete, truncate or purge the .ldf & not kill the app or data?

Sorry, I'm not a DBA or I'd have a better understanding of this stuff.
