Moving a device from one node to another.

Question

Forgive me if this is the wrong forum to post this, but can anyone help.  I'm still learning solarwinds and I am wondering if anyone can point me to a guide on how to easily move a device from one node to another node in NPM.  My company has devices sorted by regional offices and they have moved some devices to another office.  Now they would like me to move them in our summary and I'm not sure how without removing the device and re-adding it in the new location.  Is there any better way?  Thanks.

Ya, sorry it was a bit poorly worded.  We have a setup like this:

Region

----Town1

--------Device1

--------Device2

----Town2

--------Device3

--------Device4

I was trying to move device4 to town1, in my silly example, and it wouldn't let me move it.  It turns out he made a setup combining all kinds of custom properties.  What worked in the end was changing some of his custom properties, which allowed me to use edit node to change the town the device was associated with.

What i'd guess is you've got a custom summary view using either a custom property or groups or both representing your offices

You might be able to find out which if you hit Edit on the element.

If you're editing custom propeties you can do that on the Edit Node page, the Manage Nodes page, the Custom Properties page in settings, or a few more complicated ways.

If you're editing group membership do that in the Manage Groups page in settings

If the person who made the page is still around ask them how it works

Hi,

Your question is a bit confusing but I'll try to guess what you're trying to achieve here. Are you trying to change SolarWinds Polling Engine of the server?

If yes, you can do that in multiple ways.

1. Go to the Node details page and click on 'Edit Node'

scroll down to 'Polling' tab and you can find the 'change polling engine' button there. Click on it and select the polling engine you want to change to.

Make sure you test the connection between the node and Polling engine before you make the change.

2. If you want to change polling engine for multiple servers, then go to Settings > All Settings > Manage nodes and check all the nodes you want to make a change to. After that, drop down the 'More Actions' option on the top and select the 'Change Polling Engine' option. Again, make sure you test the connection.
