Hi All,
I may be missing something basic here, but is there no way to poll servers with both WMI 'AND' SNMP? In this case I am trying to poll HP/HPE servers ranging from Gen8 - Gen10. I require WMI for monitoring the application layer (Windows, Exchange, SQL, AD, IIS, etc.). But I require SNMP monitoring in order to monitor the hardware health (drive failures, power supplies, etc.). It seems like I am being forced to choose one over the other. Hardware monitoring or application monitoring. I cannot believe this to truly be the case so I must be missing something here.
I have created a second discovery scope where I am targeting the iLOs separately. This seems to be the only way to monitor both layers. So an SNMP discovery scope for iLOs and all other server discovery scopes target WMI. The problem here is in the presentation. The iLO's are not associated with the physical server with which they reside, as if they were being monitored with SNMP. So for example. ServerA is being monitored with WMI and it runs Exchange. All Exchange, IIS and Windows counters are being properly reported, but there is no hardware health monitoring under this same view, either the default Node Details, or Asset Inventory view. To me this is an oversight. Because the iLO/hardware health monitoring is not even its own tab on the navigation menu of the server's page by default. So you need to also manage them as a separate entity from the server's WMI monitoring.
I am hoping someone can provide some guidance here on how to properly address this situation, or what Solarwinds expectations and recommendations are for this scenario.
Many thanks
