application monitor template inquiry

I'm going to throw out the new to SolarWinds SAM card again. So I'm going to setup monitoring of numerous windows services. Do people create an application monitor template per server or per service? So we have numerous servers with numerous different services running on them. When I go to the Component Monitor Wizard > Windows Service Monitor > select a server / credential > I get a list of services on that specific machine. Do I select every service that I would like to monitor on that machine and name the application monitor template after the machine solely assigning that application monitor template to that machine. Or do I select an individual service and name the application monitor template after the service which would allow me to potentially assign the application monitor template to more than one machine (keeping in mind that service would have to reside on every machine being assigned the template)?

I'm trying to identify what would be the best practice to apply. I'm thinking just creating a template for each individual service needing to be monitored.

I would create a template for each Service/Application it’s easier in my opinion to identify where the issue is.

you can also reuse the template on other machines.

I have different templates that meet my needs.

Since I have SolarWinds:

I have a template for monitoring the services on the Primary Poller

I have a template for monitoring the services on my additional web Server

I have a template for monitoring the services on my additional polling engines

Each of the these have different components in them, but are similar enough to fit my need when I need to rinse and repeat.

I have other "Applications" that I do the same with. I really just depends on what you have and what makes sense.

Combine this with a custom property that identifies the server type then you can make a group and then when a node gets added to a group, then you can automagically assign the correct template to that group.

Boom, automation.

Thank you both for responding. I'm trying to avoid getting deep into configuration and then find out there was some better methodology. Sounds like it's a little of both and user preference. Thanks.
