If a solarwinds upgrade requires an upgrade to a 3rd party piece of software, it would be nice to see that in the release notes. It would also like to be given the option to back out if I choose not to upgrade that 3rd party software.
Justin,
Could you be more specific as to what you are referring to? I'd like to address your issue.
Currently, the Administrator Guide is used to provide the requirements of the products. In the case of documentation, the Release Notes are used to provide last minute changes and any updates to the requirements that are not included in the Administrator Guide. Are you seeing something that needs to be added that is missing from the Administrator Guide?
Thanks,
Michael
I noticed in passing that an update to a component of MS SQL was run before SP2 was installed. I didn't see anything in the release notes about this update.
Please let me first assure you that we have not touched your MS SQL Server or any component of your SQL Server. I talked with development about what you saw. The component that is installed is MS SQL CE 3.5. This is completely client-side and separate from SQL Server. Since this component is required by our software and available for redistribution, we redistribute it. It is not included in the requirements because it is installed with the software and, in many ways, considered part of the software.
By the way, MS SQL CE 3.5 did not upgrade your current installation of MS SQL CE 3.1 (which was probably installed by Orion NPM). The components live side-by-side and operate independently. For example, if and when Microsoft releases 4.0 of SQL CE, you can install it, but it will not replace or upgrade 3.5.
Hope that helps.
