What is the purpose of the Config Archive?

If I am correct, when a config is downloaded, two copies are stored. One is in the database and one goes to the Config Archive folder on the NCM app server.

What is the purpose of each copy? How are they used by NCM?

Also, I know that the Purge job cleans up config files stored in the NCM database, but is there an automated way to delete the files in the Config Archive folder, or must I do that manually?

The archive is for you to store offline if you wanted.

I use it for many things, like searching all configs for a certain field or many fields using PERL CGI. Also you may want to store more than 10 copies offline as the last place I worked at wanted over a years worth of config archives.

Thanks for the reply. So, does NCM actually use the Config archive for any functions it performs?

As far as I know, no actions are applied to the archive by NCM, maybe one of the SolarWinds Staff can clarify. thanks

There's another thread you may be interested in that talks about a couple of ways to keep that directory clean. There's a batch file written by casperinmd and a powershell written by me.
