TCP/UDP PORTS monitoring by SAM?

Hi,

I have had been using Sitescope and can say it was fairly easy to find a Relevant monitor there and go about doing the task to monitor almost all the components.

I have a need to get rid of Sitescope and instead use SAM and NPM (NCM and NTA too though).

I am unable to find a PORT monitor template in SAM so far. I thought it was in there and fairly would be straight forward to use.

I have the following few examples to monitor now from Solarwinds that I was doing from Sitescope so far.

The devices that I need to monitor these PORTS on are Bluecoat proxy; a few other may be Servers as well.

If someone can please help me with how to go about it in SAM/NPM would be great help to say the least.

Access to the SOAP HTTPS (Radius)

TCP 8445

Ports 8080, 8081, 8082, 8083, 21

Also, I followed quite a few links to find an answer but just could not get through.

have another link within the page that lands no where and the hope of finding a help for this port monitoring diminishes.

The tcp port monitor is pretty simple to set up, so I would wager that if you are having a hard time we should probably step back and begin with the basics of how to create templates

Sorry my friend but as I am sure you have read many times on this forum UDP isn't something that SAM can monitor because it doesn't have a measurable response.

You might try some of the following to work around this:

SOAP Component Monitor

RADIUS User Experience monitor

Or one of the many other Application Component Monitors to monitor the service at the other end of the UDP Port:

It should be fine since all of the ports listed in the requirements for are actually just plain tcp.

I recently migrated a fairly large sitescope environment into Solarwinds, ~14,000 monitors across ~2000 servers and in that case the hardest part was just exporting lists of the things we needed out of sitescope. Once we had some kind of to-do list assembled building templates in SAM to replace sitescope was mostly trivial.

Well, every big monitoring software I work with (Zabbix, PRTG) all have native application for UDP monitoring.
Dunno why Solarwinds doesn't have it

@danielleh Is there any hope of implementing built-in scripts for UDP in future releases?
