Post v11 upgrade, last db sync problem

After updating to v11 I am getting last database sync problems on my additional polling engine(settings > polling engines).

1: additional polling engine software installed, config wiz run, no errors

2: bounced Solarwinds Orion Module Engine service on main poller

3: no space issues

Should the "Solarwinds Orion Module Engine" service exist on the additional poller(s) and not just the main? Cause its not on my additional poller.

Not sure what else to check, only started happening after v11(up from 10.7) was installed on main and additional poller. I have opened a ticket with support, just curious if anyone has any ideas.

Prior to upgrading the system, our primary poller had been renamed. This didn't seem to cause any issues until the upgrades were complete.

Here is the solution! Great experience with technical support.

ERROR SolarWinds.BusinessLayerHost.PluginInstanceAppDomain - Plugin "Core Business Layer" failed to start.

System.UriFormatException: Invalid URI: The format of the URI could not be determined.

- Open Database Manager

- Navigate to ReportJobs table

-Check the WebsiteID column

- Now navigate to Websites table (take a note of the WebsiteID)

-Replace the WebsiteID column in the ReportsJobs table with a valid WebsiteID found from Wesbites table

-Restart the Orion Manager services.

Did you upgrade the APEs as well, or just the main server? If you have not upgraded the APEs I would recommend doing that.

Yes, all pollers were upgraded and the configuations wizards ran with no errors.

Just to confirm, you did run the additional poller installer and not the NPM installer on the APEs, correct?

Yes. "Solarwinds-Orion-AdditionalPoller-2014.07.29-b109-SB" to be specific.

Well this was weird. With the new NTA being on a separate server we uninstalled NTA entirely from our pollers with the intention of reinstalling later, and even though the windows control panel reporting that NTA was uninstalled, it was still on the system. I've never been one to "reboot and ask questions later" so I worked the problem till point of frustration. Finally at the end of my rope I rebooted the additional poller and the NTA install reappeared in the windows control panel. I uninstalled it again, rebooted again, re-ran configuration wizard on both the main and the additional and now the pollers stay sync'd

chalk this one up to just plain weird.

I have great respect for treating reboot as a last resort and working problems into the ground. IMHO this is one of the big things that separates good engineers from great engineers. Kudos.

I upgraded to NPM 11 from 10.7 as well and had polling issues. However, my Last Database Sync time was up to date on both pollers. My issue was that the Last Database Update under the Polling Engine details was not updating. Also, all of my next poll times were in the past (Around the time when I started the upgrade).

I found an older forum article that actually helped me fix my issue.

I followed those steps and the database updates started working again as well as the next poll times started to update.

I don't know how relevant this is to your situation but thought I would add to this since I had somewhat of a similar situation. Also, upgrading all of my systems went without error.

But I have tried NPM v11 with fresh installation also. I have removed all directories from server but no luck....

I have opened a support case for nearly the same issue.

Upgraded from NPM 10.7 to NPM 11.0.1

(also NTA 4.0.3, NCM 7.3.2, VNQM 4.2.0, and SAM 6.1.1)

Installed NPM and modules on main poller first.

Installed NTA on storage server.

The latest NTA 4.0.3 was not included in the following packages:

SolarWinds-Orion-AdditionalPoller-2014.09.15-b131

SolarWinds-Orion-AdditionalWebsite-2014.09.15-b131

Therefore, post upgrades on Main Poller, NTA had to be upgraded on Additional Poller / Webserver first.

Otherwise, Configuration Wizard complained over the version discrepancy.

Once NTA had been upgraded, I was able to proceed with the installations and configuration wizards which completed successfully.

However, for "good measure" I rebooted the main poller.

Once the server came back online, we ran into the familiar "couldn't establish a connection 17777"

Ran configuration wizard again on the main poller - this resolved the issue.

Now, with all services up and running - also ran database maintenance, in Poller Settings we show main poller status "down" and

the last database sync 900+ minutes, that is until we restart the control module engine on our main poller.

Status goes "up" and we wait for the database sync to fall out, wash rinse repeat.

Time sync is good across all related servers including SQL.

I entered a support case, will keep you posted.
