Bandwidth more than 1500%

Hello. I'm new. I've revised some posts but i can't find anything about my problem. I supose you could help me.

I have sub-interfaces on gigaethernet interfaces using 802.1q on Cisco routers. The interfaces are configured with 100mbps because thy are conected to switches without gigabit connections. So the interfaces and subinterfaces have a bandwidth of 100mbps.
Solarwind and Orion get 100mbps as bandwidth but when the information is procesed they present utilizatios of 1500% and more because they get the interfaces are forwarding more thar 1,5gbps.

I don't know if the problem is the information provided by the routers (cisco bug) or solarwinds/orion are presenting colected data in a wrong way (counters rollovers, polling rates,...)

We have run into issues like that but you need to verify that ORION is recognizing the actual TX and RX Bandwidth as truly 100Mbps. The Interface speed might show as 100Mbps but with some subinterfaces and Tunnels the TX and RX speeds defaults to 9000bps.

We had the same problem with all our Cisco 836 Routers. Solarwinds couldn't figure out the correct port speed of the ADSL-Interface. As i'm too lazy to correct port speed manually on 800 routers (hey, grouping would be nice!), i disabled the alerts.

The same problem occurs on Cisco 2950 switches and their gigabit-if's.

You can change the interface speed on all 800 at once using an SQL query in the DB.

Update Interface<table where the interface speeds are stored>
Set InterfaceSpeed=nnn (or whatever the property is in the DB for this)
Where InterfaceCaption=yyy - or where interface speed=mmm (if they are all set the same & no other type of router interface is set to this speed)

hey NG,

figured that out too. But the scheduled rediscovery of the 836's sets the interfaces values back to the wrong speed values... which kind of suc***s.

same problem with our 2950 switches here. interface bandwidth detection results in 10MBps (!), generating high interface load alarms.
anyone has a permament solution for this (except switching rediscovery off) ?

That is Strange indeed.
Once I've set the interface speed, it does not change, even after a rediscovery.
Perhaps there are 2 fields in the DB, one for the discovered speed & one with the speed you want Orion to use?

Try setting one router manually through the System Manager GUI & see if it changes after a rediscovery?
