Anyone working in medical field

Just switched from legal to medical. The hospital I just got employed at is putting in an install of Solarwinds so I am looking for advice (obviously without breaching confidentiality) on monitoring certain applications and general layout. We have about 3000 servers and 1200 network devices.

A server is a server, doesn't matter what field.

You rmain concern is HIPPA compliance reporting. You need to provide audits of how Domain Admins are managed, AD failure logging. Forensics. SolarWinds SAM won't provide this, you would need a centralized repository - I suggest ME AD Audit. I have no experience with SolarWinds LEM, perhaps its good too.

I agree that equipment is still equipment. HIPPA is a concern as well as certain applications that run on those servers.

I used to support some huge pharma companies.

All they wanted was Domain Admin data, failed logins reporting, screenshots of Domain Admin memberships.

Nothing related to applications or servers. Just security reporting for privileged access, share access etc.You need a solid AD reporting tool. AD Audit is cheep and very good.

They are going to want application monitoring for various applications, I know I can get services for the various apps but was hoping that others might have more experience setting up custom application monitors.

They use the same types of apps that you would support for other firms to be honest.

All of them these days are using TrackWise and Workday HR PM apps. Databases, Linux, the same stuff you would monitor for a media company.

There is nothing unique I can think of about the big pharmas I have supported. Big files shares, Oracle, web apps, URLs etc. All the same.
