How to display a script output?

Hi,

I have a request from my collegues to monitor various text logs files on our system

I don't want any UP/Down status but only display the result of a script who scans the files and returns a result greater than 20 lines

Do you have any idea how to do that? Should I use a report? an APM?

I didn't have much success getting multi-line messages to return prior to APM 4.2.  I'm referring to a single message with multiple lines and not the multi-value scripts in APM 4.2.

With that said, I was able to get multi-line messages using both VBScript on Windows and Perl on Linux.  The trick is getting the right new-line call:

VBScript

vbNewLine

Perl

If you don't want up/down status just be sure to always use a successful exit code regardless of whether or not the script itself fails.  Granted, you'll still get down status if the scripts fails to run completely (credentials, network failure, etc.).  Since a Statistic is required you can always return 0 and not set the thresholds so you won't have to worry about Warning/Critical alerts either.
