How does Orion determine interface bandwidth?

On all of my network interfaces Orion shows both a Transmit and Receive interface bandwidth as well as a Configured Interface Speed. I also see that I can manually change the Transmit and Receive interface bandwidth if I want.

What I am curious about is how Orion auto-determines what these values are, especially for VLAN's?

Regarding Cisco devices, Solarwinds is able to poll from the bandwidth setting on the interface. Say for like a MetroEthernet connection you would terminate this in a 100mb/1000mb Ethernet interface, though your actual provided bandwidth may only be 25mb. In which case you would need to go into Solarwinds and adjust the configured bandwidth to reflect the actual bandwidth of 25mb instead of the interface bandwidth of 100mb/1000mb.

Though I'm not sure how this would apply to VLAN's either, are you talking about the bandwidth being using on an SVI?
