ConfigAutoDownload.exe Freezing

I'm having a weird issue with my NCM server that seems to be a bug. I have NCM setup to send realtime alerts when any configuration change is detected by the Orion syslog server. The alerts at first were being sent fine, but after some time I noticed we weren't recieving any alerts. I found on the server when I launched task manager, the configuautodownload.exe is hung in the processes. I have to kill each instance, then we will start recieving emails again.

It happens randomly but at least once a day. I have been going back and fourth we support on this, hoping someone else has had a similar issue and solution.

Very disturbing issue of course. And this is a confirmed bug. They said it will be fixed with the upcoming NCM v7.0.

Here is the answer from SolarWinds.

Hi all - I got in touch with some of you offline, and given the additional information, we were able to reproduce the issue. It's going to take a code change, so we don't have a quick fix.
If you try to adjust the setting: 'Limit number of simultaneous RTN download operations' option on NCM Settings > RTCD > Config Change Settings screen that should help some.

Meanwhile, for now all you can do is kill the processes in task manager and check your rule in the traps. If you can filter out non RTCD message from triggering the rule, that will help as well.

I will submit your case to the known bug issue and when there is a fix for it, you will be notified.

In NCM console. under File-Settings, in the Real Time Change Detection section can you veriy that the windows based account used to kick off the task has a valid user id and password?

Yes the account has the correct access.

It will work fine for some time, then the process will freeze again.

What SQL Server you have ? Do you have free space on install and system derive ?

Open a ticket and submit the logs to review .

Turning on Logging for NCM

1. Navigate to C:\Program Files\Solarwinds\Configuration Management\Logging and delete all the old log files.

2. Navigate to C:\Program Files\Solarwinds\Configuration Management\Session-Trace and delete all the old txt files.

3. Execute C:\Program Files\Solarwinds\Configuration Management\EnableDisableOrionNCMLogging.exe

4. Click Enable. This turns on all logging in the software.

5. Open NCM and perform the function with the current issue.

6. Click Disable. This turns off all logging in the software.

Wow, well I'm glad to hear it's a bug. Very disappointing though, the whole reason we invested in this system is to send real time alerts.
