I've created individual views for each department. The departments really like their views. Maybe I'll send a screenshot later.
I am currently doing the same. Exchange, Telecom, Network and Servicing really appreciate the info they get and ease of accessibility.
when you say customised, do you mean how many custom application pollers have you created? I have custom dashboards, support matrixes and little network atlas diagrams for each dept. It makes it easier for them to support their environments doing it this way.

The above is for a small NOC team who need to confirm that their instance servers are working correctly. Obviously for larger environments I would use groups and with this one eventually the Inst servers will be in groups too. I am expecting about 100 Inst servers at the end of the project.
I went through an assessment and training phase where I taught them how to drill down into problems and how to use Solarwinds to determine what the issue is. We have regular workshops about the alerting and we have created many custom pollers for the applications / events / file existence and other stuff.
