Group Alert

Question

I want only particular groups of nodes alert if they go down rather than all nodes.

For instance if all nodes in Group 1 Workstations, Group 2 Servers are down send one alert immediately with subject All Nodes in Group {group name} are down.

If one or more but not not all nodes within the group Group 1 Workstations, Group 2 Servers are down, send an email with the group name and the node name after 2 minutes of being down.

I've tried many variations but with no success.  Thanks for any advice

Group 2 Servers

- node a

- node b

Group 3 Workstations

- node aa

- node bb

If you put nodes in a group, its default behavior (mixed status) is going to send the group into 'Warning' if one or more go down and 'Down' if all of them are down. That sounds like it jibes with the alert conditions you're describing. At that point you just need to have two alert definitions - one triggering when the groups is in warning and another when the group is down. Also, I'm not understanding why you would have a third group for another set of workstations unless they're being singled out for a reason.

I'm seeing grouping, but no alert definitions. What have you tried? What's not working specifically?
