Hello
Within the down Interface View; question:: is there a way to flag or mark the displayed interface has been acknowledged or is being worked on . That way the next person knows if that Down interface is being addressed.
Hello Mike,
If there are alerts configured for that interface then, yes, you can have someone "acknowledge" them. If they are just a "Interface Down" event, then you are only able to "Clear" them out. From the "Home" tab of your Orion web console there is an "Alerts" interface which will allow you to view active and acknowledged alerts (and also who acknowledged them) and other relevant details about any active/acknowledged alerts.
See attached screenshot with acknowledged alerts - Also, note that you will have to check the box to "Show Acknowledged Alerts" if you want to display both "Active" and "Acknowledged" alerts.
Also just a quick addition to functionality of alerts: You can setup escalation of alerts so that if one of your staff doesn't acknowledge an alert within a set period of time, the alert will escalate or notify another person or persons (depending on the alert's configuration).
Hi Jon
Thank you for the information, I was aware that you could acknowledged the alerts. I have been trying to figure out away to fill this request from one of my Techs.
I received a request from one of my techs who monitor Orion there request is displayed below. This request would be a great feature request in NPM.
Tech request:
I have no idea of the feasibility of this but I had a small idea for Solar winds.
Is there a way that the Down interfaces could be flagged or marked in such a way as to identify them at a glance if they have had a ticket open on them.
I mean a way for us to mark them that yes I have opened a ticket on this item.
My reasoning is based on my own observations, when I take over netcool solar winds and they have no hand off and I see 40 things in Down interface my gut reaction for good or bad is these must have been addressed or they are non impacting.
Right or wrong that’s how it can be seen especially if there is an active issue or outage getting all the attention.
If I could at a glance see ok these 6 things all have tickets but these 5 things done then I KNOW what to look at first rather than trying to go line by line and seeing if they have been addressed or just assuming they have because a bigger fire is happening.
I think my coworkers could benefit from a system that allowed them to quickly see what needs looking at. I know this isn’t usually an issue because there aren’t always so many ongoing issues. But it happens enough and helps mistakes happen.
A visible ticket number would be great but even just a giant checkmark option would work. The time on the alarm has no relationship to when it actually went down otherwise that could also help.
Anyway just an idea. I don’t know what the limits or options available with Orion.
Jonathan
