Can this be done now from SAM now, an old thread Unable to send emails from Orion via Office 365 SMTP showed it was an issue and we are getting same error?

The ticket you're referring to was filed back in 2015. There have been many updates in the ensuing years, and improvements to handle O365 emails has been part of those updates.
