I'm using Solarwinds Cirrus Configuration Manager to back up quite a few Cisco configurations.
I've been running this for a couple of years now to backup Cisco 6500 IOS based configs with no problems. I'm now using it to backup some newly installed Cisco ASR 9010 running the new IOS XR.
Every time Cirrus performs a scheduled backup/comparison, the Cisco ASR reports a configuration change. The configuration change is always reported as the 'snmp system contact'.
I've got the Cirrus schedule set up to only download the config if it was different to the previously stored one, but with the ASR9010 it was saving one every time. I've managed to get round this problem by editing the comparison data as there was a difference between IOS and XR. The problem now though is that the Cisco ASR still thinks the config has been changed every time Cirrus backs it up.
During a scheduled comparison/backup, what actually happens between Cirrus and the Cisco ASR? Does Cirrus request the config via an SNMP set request, download the config via TFTP and then compare it to the previously stored one?
