Network Performance Monitor (NPM)
Alert Dependencies
jlunsford
Hi, I'm just trying to get some confirmation.
We currently have over 50 remote offices that we monitor, plus datacenter, plus misc. Currently in our alerts we have an alert for monitoring non-critical nodes, which basically means that we just don't get paged for those during non-business hours. Then we have critical nodes that we get pages for 24x7.
We currently only get pages for node status, but I want to set it up so that we get paged fore certain interfaces and vpn tunnels. However, I'd like to setup some dependencies so that we don't get paged for the vpns if the main internet connection is down, and so that we don't get paged for any of the interfaces if the whole node is down.
From the reading that I've done, it doesn't look like I can do this with the current way our alerts are setup. It looks like I'll need to setup a seperate alert for each office, and then I can configure the alert supression/dependencies for each of the offices.
Can someone tell me if I have this right/wrong.. If I have it wrong, can someone tell me the workaround??
Thanks!!!!

Yes you are correct, you need a separate alert for each dependency.
This has been discussed in several other posts. Do a search in this Forum for "alert suppression".
