Problems importing nodes from NetPerfMon into NCM

Hello people,

I've been running NPM and NCM for a long time now and have just run into a new problem. When I am trying to import some new nodes into NCM, which I have done many times before, I am getting an error message on the Import Wizard. I have selected "Logon to SQL Server using SQL Server userid and password. I have entered the credentials that I know work and when I click the drop down for the Database I want it freezes for about 15 seconds then returns the following error:

Anyone seen this before? I've tried typing in the database name instead of using the drop down box but get this error instead:

Now I know it looks like I'm putting in the wrong credentials but I have checked this and reset passwords and logged onto the SQL server with the username and password.

The server is there as both NPM and NCM are up and working.

I've rebooted both servers and also updated to the latest NPM and NCM including service pacs/hotfix.

Any help would b great

Hello People,

I have resolved this issue so I thought I would update just in case someone else ever has this issue.

I have an instance running on an SQL server the server name is IPI-SQL and the instance is called IPI_SENTINEL. Now before when I used to click the dropdown menu for the SQL server I didn't have to make an adjustment I would just click on the only SQL server that was there, 'IPI-SQL', then I would select the database without any issue. It turns out, for whatever reason, that I have to put in a, '\' and type the name of the instance, e.g. 'IPI-SQL\IPI_SENTINEL'

After doing the above I can now list my databases on that server without any problems. I don't know if the IPI_SENTINEL part used to come on its own or not I just knew I didn't have to change anything when importing nodes before. Hope this helps someone out in the future.

Are the databases on the same server too? If so, it sounds like your ODBC config is screwedup on the one server.

No the databases are on a separate SQL server.

Both the NPM and NCM websites work. Configuration is backed up every night as well as inventoried and it all works. So the connection to the SQL database is there. Just broken when I come to try and import from the NPM database.

I've logged a ticket with Solarwinds but haven't had too much response back yet other than a request for the screenshots.

Were permissions changed on the database server regarding remote access?
