SNMP Load on switch

Question

Hello:

I have a guy who will not let me enable snmp on a switch because he does not want to be burdened.  My guess is that polling a switch every 10 min for CPU, Memory, and sent and received on all ports does not add up to much of a load if any.  However, I cannot prove this.

Does anyone know of a study regarding how much monitoring can tax a cisco switch?  I need some fuel.

^ Agree completely, we monitor switches all the time here, some down to every individual port, they aren't even tickled

A couple of comments from our internal network engineers/devs:

* Most efficient switches switch in hardware , and the process mgr will not allow a housekeeping function to starve a real “keep the packets flowing” process.  The impact is negligible.

One NMS polling every 10 minutes? The impact should be so small as to be practically undetectable…
