importing NPM nodes into NCM

Just a few questions regarding NCM...

Is there a way to import only NPM nodes with specific SNMP community strings ?..I don't want servers, ups's, included in the NCM inventory.

What is best practice to keep NCM inventory synchronized with NPM, in otherwords, if a cisco node is added in NPM, is it a manual process to also add it to NCM ?...or can this be automated ?

I guess ideally, i'm looking to synchronize the NPM database with NCM inventory, but only for devices with certain snmp community string.

Any insight is much appreciated.

Yes, this works. See this Orion Product Blog Post.

NOTE: For those of you having issues with making this work, please pay special attention to the update at the bottom of the post. You must set the value for "Orion node import allowed" to Yes for all nodes.

I'd be interested in sync'ing based on a custom property, or allowed IP range, etc. as well.

What version of NCM are you all running? NCM 5.5.1 includes a scheduled Orion NPM node import job (Schedule > New Job > Import nodes from Orion database). The job allows you to filter nodes imported based on Vendor and Machine Type.

yea, I'm running 5.1.0, but I have Other criteria I'd need to use. Right now, I have a lot of gear in NCM I don't need in there, but we want to keep an eye on in NPM, due to location, etc...

We had the same issue regarding importing nodes from NPM to NCM based upon more criteria than that provided for as standard.

Have a look at this thread for the method we used ().

It could be adapted for any selection criteria required.

Basically we create a replica of the NPM nodes table and use a select statement to populate the table nightly (could be based upon any selection statement you can dream up).

This table is then the one used for the standard NCM import.

The method seems to work well for us.
