Connecting to Database w/ SQL Enterprise Manager
DannyMc
I am trying to connect to the SQL database provided with Orion using SQL Enterprise Manager from another server. Everytime I try and connect I am getting connection refused errors. I even ran through the Setup Wizard and created a new SQL profile for the polling engine to use and tried to connect with that profiel. No luck.
The original root of my problem is that my SQL database is full. I cannot even compact the database or anything. I turned on syslog for my Pix. Needless to say I need to get in there and purge some data.
I have not collected any data since Friday night/Saturday morning.
Suggestions?

Using the database utility I was able to do queries against the syslog table. I was using the standard query to retrieve and delete 1000 at a time. Change the query string to 'delete from syslog where ....). After a minute I got an error:
Error=Cannot open database requested in login 'NetPerfMon'. Login fails.
I rebooted the server and still get the error when starting NPM.
When I start the Orion Web Site:
Cannot access main SQL Server database.
Connection = Provider=SQLOLEDB.1;User ID='PollingEngine';Password='*********';Persist Security Info=False;Initial Catalog=NetPerfMon;Data Source=ORION\SolarWinds;Use Procedure for Prepare=1;Auto Translate=True;Packet Size=4096;Workstation ID=CATVModemMgmt;Use Encryption for Data=False;Tag with column collation when possible=False
Error = Cannot open database requested in login 'NetPerfMon'. Login fails.
Suggestions?
Thanks,
Danny Mc?

When you say "the database Orion provided" are you referring to the MSDE version, or the NetPerfMon database framework that's created on a "real" SQL server when the product is installed? If a real SQL box, do you have SA access or another login that has db_owner access to the NetPerfmon database?
After that there's always Query analyzer to purge the DB, rather than trying to do it all in Enterprise Manager
