Problem with Email Trigger Actions

Hello Everyone,

We are facing challenges configuring advanced alerts with SMTP trigger,

In short, we are unable to set the Email/Pager recipients to a mail-enabled group, when we specify individual mail box instead, everything works fine, however, when we set the recipients to a group & run tests, we don't get any notifications from Orion.

I restarted the Orion services & even the entire server, but unfortunately didn't help.

Any idea?

Would you post the settings you put on email action definition? For instance an sreenshot or something to be clear what is the issue.

Hello

I see you are trying to send emails to a distribution list named EUNetTeam. Distribution list is a feature of an Email Client (for instance MS Outlook). And it has no own email address.

What an email client does, is that it looks in the distribution list and sends email to all email addresses in the list.

So what you can do: Open the distribution list in your Outlook and copy all addresses from the list to email recipients.

We have a big list of devices & using distribution lists does give us the flexibility when it comes to adding/removing users, we can simply do that only in one place, without having to edit the entire list in Orion.

Moreover, Distribution lists are already in use under Orion, but for some reasons it doesn't work with newly defined DL.

I have used email distribution lists many times and have had no issues with them, the SMTP server should be receiving the email alert and distributing it to all the recipents on the list, have your Mail team look into it as it sounds like it is a Mail issue and not an issue with Orion. Also, look on the Event Logs on the Orion Server and look for the failed email entry as it may assist you in determining the issue.

Check to see it it is an orion problem or an email server problem by TSing to to the orion server and manually sending the smtp message like this (where mail is the hostname or ip of your mail server):

telnet mail 25
-- or --
putty -raw -P 25 mail

An Outlook client created distribution list doesn't have an email address.....A server based DL or Distribution Group absolutely does have an email address associated with it that can be used.

we was able to solve this issue by changing the distribution group properties in our Exchange 2016 -> Delivery Management -> Senders inside and outside of my organization
