Maintaining historical data through interface/node changes

Hi,

Is there any way to keep historical data associated with interfaces/nodes through a change? For instance, this morning I had an HP box with teamed NIC's go funky on me and I had to delete and recreate the interfaces. This resulted in the NIC team having a different number than before, so now NPM can't see the old NIC and adding the new NIC will start data collection from scratch. I don't want to lose the old information however, because I'm interested in long term trends.

Solarwinds actually improved on the functionality - There's a fix available for 9.5.1 - Unfortunately the fix causes new problems with ALL interfaces on a node that's temperarily down to become Unknown Interfaces untill you MANUALLY do a rediscover on the Node..

You could run a SQL update to replace the old ID with the new ID. It's not pretty, but it should work. Try it in test first though.

When you say replace the old ID with the new ID, are you referring to the NPM Interface ID or the snmp index ID from the box itself?

I found the two interfaces I'm trying to deal with -- the old interface has the InterfaceID '159' and the InterfaceIndex is '16'. The new interface is InterfaceID '334' and InterfaceIndex '24'. What's the best way to do this? Change the new Interface to have the ID and index of the old?

I'm having the excact same problem - Got a case open with support right now. Did you ever manage to get it working ??

It's not about a node changing IP - it's about interfaces being replaced by other interfaces - and Orion being unable to handle this.

It's not as uncommen as it might sound - to upgrade the bandwidth of a link you'll often have to upgrade the hardware as well - We could really use a "Replace interface" option in orion - it sounds pretty 'doable' to me
