Is there an automated way to upload a startup configuration for Cisco products? I saw the title of a thread but I get an error when trying to view it.
Hi,
Yes. The administration guide details the steps page 60 of the pdf.
http://www.solarwinds.com/support/orionNCM/docs/orionNCMAdministratorGuide.pdf
Uploading an Entire Configuration
Complete the following procedure to upload an entire configuration file. To upload an entire configuration file:
1. Click the configuration file in the left pane, and then click Configs > Upload Entire Config.
Note: Additional nodes can be added or removed from the list by using the associated buttons below the list of nodes.
2. If you want to write the configuration to memory, check Write Config to NVRAM.
3. If your device needs to be rebooted following the upload, check Reboot Device.
Warning: Rebooting a device may cause momentary connectivity outages.
4. Click Create Upload Script.
5. Click Execute Command Script.
6. If you want to save the results of the script when the upload finishes, click Save Results.
Well, this is interesting, because the "upload entire config" option is greyed out for me. Why is that?
Answered that question. I ran the Config Wizard and repaired the Services. Now the Upload Entire Config option is available. But, I don't see the Create Upload Script and Execute Command Script commands. Where are they?
The procedure referenced in the Admin guide makes it appear that those two commands are a part of the config upload process, but they are not there.
Next development... I attempted to upload a config without executing a command script. It did not take, but that may be another story.
However, I noticed that the Upload Entire Config option is unavailable again in the Configs menu. But, if I open the config file, the Actions button has the Upload Entire Config option available.
Is this a bug?
So you are saying this is an upload of the startup configuration and not a merge of the running configuration and then a save? It sounds like its an upload to running config and save with a write to NVRAM. I'm looking for a replacement of the startup configuration file with a completely new configuration.
*bump*
This would be useful for us as well, the current 'upload config' doesnt really cut it we need something similar to 'copy tftp startup' where the running config is not touched but the startup is updated.
Heres our scenario. All maintenance spares are stored in a lab rack, hot and ready to go, these are all in Orion so we can monitor for equipment failures and the like.
Currently, should a device in the field die I need to extract the current config for the dead device from Orion and place it on my TFTP server and perform a 'copy tftp startup' to the spare. The current Orion 'upoload config' doesnt work becuase as soon as the IP changes the device is no longer accessable by NCM, and even worse only has half a config.
It would be real nice to be able to select 'upload config' and 'to startup' in NCM and off we go.
Thanks,Aaron
