Download configs from Cisco and Juniper switches configured with SSH

We are doing a switch refresh. Our old Cisco and Juniper switches had telnet only enabled. The new switch stacks are only accessible through SSH and now we are unable to download configurations to our Orion database.

Is there a way we can configure Orion to do SSH and telnet?

I have my basic Telnet settings configured as the default profile. So any new device added will use this profile unless I change it. Every other profile I need is configured separately. These include profiles for downloading Nexus configs, SSH configs etc.

You can change the default protocols and even force all your devices to use the new settings. Go to Settings > NCM Settings > Global Device Defaults. Change the 3 settings below to SSH and check the box to the right and then click submit.

I created separate Connection Profiles. One for Telnet and one for SSH. Then I just set the device to use one or the other. Or you can have the default say on Telnet and create a Connection Profile for SSH.

Connection profiles is found in NCM Settings, in the Global Device Defaults box.

Do you have to have a TFTP setting configured on Solarwinds to complete this process? I am guessing there is not a combo SSH/Telnet profile option?

You've got the three different tasks you can assign a protocol too. Which one are you wanting to split between protocols and how would that work? Do you have some systems using telnet and others SSH? If so, you can set a global setting and then adjust the one-offs on a per-node basis.

Just noticed this question, yes I've installed Solarwinds TFTP server on my Solarwinds server. If you go into Settings, NCM settings and then select TFTP server. In there fill out the details for your TFTP server.

I choose to run it on the server itself. If you do this, make sure you go into the Windows Control Panel and then Services. And set the TFTP service to Automatic startup type.

I was able to go to each node and change the default settings to SSH. Since we are using an older version I do not have the option in NCM to add another protocol setting. It has been done and as we move each device to SSH we can change it and then make it our standard.
