Equipment Monitored By Orion

Does Orion monitor other equipment such as 3com, nortel and alcatel? These devices have snmp but, can they be controlled with the software?

Orion isn't a control package...it only relies on what it can read.

That said, it can monitor anything that has a working SNMP stack. Granted, you won't have access to any of the custom MIBs, but you'll have a basic look at the device.

We are currently monitoring approximately 120 3COM 4400 and 3300's, couple of 4007 and an XRN solution and apart from the 4007 everything works fine and everything is monitored OK. The 4007 does not report how the switch is populated just the Gbic module with the layer 3 function.

It would be great to be able to add manufacterers mibs to Orion as 3COM seem to update them quite often.

Apart from the odd niggle I would say Orion works fine with 3COM kit.

So, there is no way to actually control the device other than reading information supplied through snmp... correct?
Also, Is the software RMON capeable?
