Hardware Health Monitor Question/Help

Hi everyone,

I understand that SAM 5 comes natively with hardware health monitors IF you have installed some vendor software from HP, Dell or IBM. I have an 2003 std HP server and i just tried to download the HP insight manager as per help topics. Can it be correct i need to install the full HP Insight Manager and with it an SQL Express instance? it seems a fair bit to whack on every physical server we have just for monitoring the hardware.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You don't need to install HP's Insight Manager. Only the SIM Agent for your respective servers operating system.

So i installed the agent for my HP Proliant 380 G3 and installed the WBEM providers so it can do WMI hardware health monitoring http://www.solarwinds.com/NetPerfMon/SolarWinds/wwhelp/wwhimpl/js/html/wwhelp.htm#href=

I have not yet restarted the server as the agent wanted, and i have not changed any default settings for the agents installed. is this how it should be?

Also i get an error, but i guess that is because i have not yet restarted the server? I am polling the server on WMI and IMCP is this correct?

I can't say I'm familiar with what "normal" is for an agent that's been installed without rebooting, but it would make sense that it probably wouldn't work correctly. When you get a chance to reboot the server let us know if that resolves your issue. You may be able to poll hardware health now via SNMP but I can't guarantee that'll work either until the server is rebooted.

How does that work with SNMP when I want to monitor services etc as well. There is not a SNMPWMIICMP option when adding a new node.
