Orion APM Unknown Status

I continue to have APM components constantly going into the "Unknown" status for varied reasons. These components range from SNMP, WMI, and RPC. Aside from having these components constantly going into the "Unknown" status everything seems to be functioning well.

I really need somebody to help me understand and resolve this problem. As much as I like APM, this could ultimately make us consider moving to a different product.

We found that 2008 R2 had some TCP Chimney settings enabled, which causes some SQL performance problems (this also applies to Vista SP1, 2008 SP1, Windows 7 and 2008 R2.) We made the following changes, and it seems to have resolved our issue.

netsh int tcp set global rss=disabled
netsh interface tcp set global autotuninglevel=disablednetsh interface tcp set global chimney=disabled

First I need to tell you how much I love the "Submit A Technical Support Ticket" button that you have, that's awesome!

I did open a support ticket on this when I was seeing the problem specifically for WMI components (now it's more than just WMI), the support person had me go through a process that completely destroyed my Orion installation and ultimately caused me to loose 14 hours of data due to restoring to a backup of our database. Ultimately I was just happy to just get my system back up and running and I ended up letting them close the ticket for fear of what they might try next.

Unfortunately now I am seeing this problem with more components and not just WMI. I was hoping others here may have had the problem and could suggest some resonable things to look at. However, if support is my only option I guess that is what I have to do. = (

i have this problem every 4-8 weeks. turns out APM can not handle having a component_data table over a few hundred MB. it seems to scan the whole table when doing just about anything...

i basically find that every time the APM component tables grows, i get APM components going into unknown, and i also get lots of false positives on APM components down. (i have several threads going on asking solarwinds to give you the choice when creating APM components on whether you want any cpu, ram or any other details... but it has not made it in yet and i do not hold much hope

if you value your historical APM data then this is no good for you... i do not care as i work on alerts and do nto report on applications from orion... so i have a script that purgest all these tables ever week... nuts really, but was all we could come up with when working with support and the forum

We'd definitely like to get these blocking issues resolved. I'll follow up with you both offline.

For other folks reviewing this thread, it's important to note that while the symptoms are similar, they may be completely unrelated in nature. We'd need a lot more information to make that determination.

Just curious if you ever were able to resolve this issue. We still have the same problem, it pops up every once in awhile and multiple tickets with support haven't gotten me very far.
