I have somewhat of a daunting problem. I need to find a way to reconcile the nodes that I have monitored in Orion (and potentially Cirrus down the road) with a "known" list given to me by our field sites. If I could be 100% sure that the IP address or Node name were correct on the list, then my job would be easy. What I am ultimately wanting to do is take the list of "known" devices, and run an SNMP Sysname Get on the device to get it's SysName, which then should be in the Orion database. Then, there could be a report, or csv file or something spit out of the process.
I know that LANSurveyor can do auto-discovery of the network, etc. However, I don't know if I can rely on that data. The flaw in that plan I see is that perhaps my Solarwinds boxes may not have ACL SNMP Access to poll those devices, which could make them not show up on the report, and then we wouldn't know about them.
Thank you for any advice!
