Solarwinds SAM (v6.4) Linux Agent on LXD Container

I've just installed a trial of Solarwinds SAM and I've deployed my first agent. My first attempt was to add an agent by pushing it from SAM using SSH Private Key. The deployment succeeded but the plugins failed to start up. I then reverted the container (thanks for snapshots) and tried to do it the manual method. Same outcome. So, now I'm attempting to testing on AWS and Azure to see if I have better success there.

In the meantime, I thought I'd ask here (probably already asked - be gentle) whether LXD is a supported environment for agent deployment while I performed the other experiments.

I'm back.

I have deployed to AWS and that seems to have deployed just fine, but I used a totally different method - using the download .gz file. What I noticed is that this method copies far more files into the Plugins directory than the other 2 methods I tried. So, my next step is to deploy the same .gz file to the LXD container and see whether I get better results.

In the meantime, I noticed that the `JobEngine.Agent.Plugin` file shows the osDistro to be `centos` but I had selected `Ubuntu 14x, 15x, 16x,x64.`

Solution to my problem:

In my LXD container, I had Python3 installed but SW Agent requires Python2. After installing Python2 (v2.7.11), all is well and I can see similar metrics as those on AWS.

Case closed.
