Converting an E-mail to an SNMP Trap/Syslog Event

I monitor several systems outside of our main network with no way to send SNMP Traps/Syslogs to our NPM system. It got me thinking...what if I could get a local SNMP Trap/Syslog server at Site B to send an e-mail to Site A when a major event occurs then have Site A convert that e-mail to a SNMP Trap/Syslog and send it to the NPM sitting in Site A. Has anyone done or seen someone else do something like this?
