Windows Service Montior

I have not been able to find any info on the configuration of the windows service monitor. I have it enable on my windows 2008 server, but it shows as service is down. Do I need to install something on the server for SAM to recognize the service monitor? Please any help will be greatly appreciated.

Hello,

There is no special configuration for Windows Service Monitor (you should provide only service name). It uses WMI for monitoring by default. Could you click on the "Test" button on the Application Edit page and provide us the whole error message you get? Could you also attach the screenshot with component settings from this page?

Also it try to get the performance data and the collecting of the perf. counters must be enabled. Please look at this thwack post: http://thwack.solarwinds.com/thread/33124

Good Catch on the registry. I dont see the key and Im not sure if that is the reason for my issue or not. If so, does that mean every server that we want to monitor services on should have this key with the settings.

thanks alterego I read that yesterday from the admin guide. I felt it was more descriptive of each field and did it lacked configuration examples, or troubleshooting steps, if that doesn't work try this scenarios.

Based on the screenshot you provided the service name "service" was not found. You may want to use the "Find Processes, Services & Performance Counters" Wizard under [Settings -> SAM Settings] to do a discovery of the services running on the server.

To configure the component monitor manually you'll need to specify the exact name of the service you want to service in the "Net Service Name" field. For example, to monitor the "Server Service" enter "LanmanServer" in the Net Service Name field. It should also accept the display name for the service "Server".

I guess this means the default template is wrong. I thought the template was built to use the windows service monitor to gather the default data for memory processor etc. Im very new to APM/SAM and still learning and I dont claim to be a server guru at all.
