Database & Server sizing suggestions

Hi,

Currently we are using Orion NPM 8.5.1 and we are planning to switch to 9.5 & NTA.

The DB is hosted on a separate SQL2005 Server.

We want to start to monitor NetFlow on about 50 devices (routers behind MPLS Switches).

So I guess the interface BW will be 100MB/1GB. The MPLS BW vary from 1 to 30 Mbit but I've absoutly no idea about the real utilization.

Detailed information should be available for about a week, trend analyzes for a year.

Is there a way to estimate the DB Size and the requierements for the sever?

How many interfaces of what size will be NetFlow exporters?

There will be at least 50 interfaces, as I allready mentioned I'm not sure about the traffic volumes on the Interfaces. The interfaces themselves will be configured to 100Mbit, but the traffica rate will differ between 1 and 30 Mbit.

I would put your DB on a partition about 100-150GB.

I have about 150 netflow interfaces, many of them 100mb-1gb or OC3 and T3. Our total DB size is around 60GB or so. We retain compressed data for 30 days.

That should be fine for the default data retention periods of uncompressed data = 2 hrs and compressed =30 days.
