Best way to test remote access to a website?

I need the opinions of this venerable group of IT gurus please!

I need to monitor the ability of a remote user to reach a URL and I want to know whether APM can do that, or if I would need SEUM or even IPSLA to do it.

If there is more than one way, which app would be the best?

Furthermore, if I want to add user experience to the monitor, that would be APM correct?

Any help and opinions are much appreciated. Remember, I don't want to test the ability of the Orion server, but a remote user.

This is really a job best suited for SeUM. APM can provide a basic level of website user experience only from the perspective of the Orion server but SeUM allows you to deploy a tiny Player agent to a remote host to see the true end users experience from that location.

So, am I to understand that APM has NO ability to remote test applications, or is it just that you think SEUM is better?

APM doesn't provide a remote player agent which it sounds like would be important for you to have visibility into the true end user experience from a remote location.

A more expensive alternative would be to deploy APM to that remote location and monitor using the HTTP user experience monitor in APM. It won't provide you anywhere near the level of information that SeUM can, and has higher system requirements to run than the SeUM player agent. If you wanted to go this route though you could utilize the Enterprise Operations Console to provide you with a single pane of glass view into your distributed APM architecture.
