Discovered Links Report

I'm having problems with this report, I've got a schedule discovery every week setup and I've also run the discovery a couple of times but nothings changed.

Some switches are not showning in the report at all and all the switches concerned are being monitered in NPM fully.

Some help with this would be much appreciated as its a very useful report to have available?

Hi Jon,

A couple of things you can check. First off, you should be getting data in your DiscoveryEdges table for each discovery you run. This should in turn populate your TopologyData table with links noted between your managed nodes and interfaces. From this table, the Discovered Links report grabs all the entries where both the Interface ID columns in the TopologyData table are not NULL.

If you have data in your DiscoveryEdges table but not your TopologyData table, then we were not able to find managed nodes/interfaces that map to the discovered links. If you have data in the TopologyData but nothing in the report, then all the entries in the TopologyData table are missing at least one interface ID.

If you don't have any data in your DiscoveryEdges table then we were not able to infer any connections from the discovery engine which is populated primarily by the Bridge MIB for most switches.

Please let me know if I can clarify any of these points.

Oh, and another thing to check is the new NPM Topology Resource in 10.0 SP1 or downloadable from here:

Placing this on a summary page will pull all the data from the TopologyData page (which can be a lot).

Note that the topology resources in SP1 have a lot of improvements on top of the ones in the content exchange area.
