Network Performance Monitor (NPM)
Weird Alert Incident
gbrance
I am running 7.8 of Orion Performance Monitor and I have my Node set for 30/sec polling and 1-min Statistics.
I have a alert setup to send a e-mail and page when a node goes down. The alert trigger is down and the alert reset is up. However recently I recived a couple of e-mails from some nodes indicating that a alert had been reset on them to up. However I cannot find a event saying that the Node was ever down. How could a alert reset to up if a Node was never down?
THanks-GB

hey gbrance,
if Orion can't reach a device, the status is changed to "warning". if the device responds in time (specified in "advanced settings -> node warning intervall"), the status is changed to "up".
take a look at your alert rule, pretty sure it says :
alert me when node goes down/up,
NOT when it's in warning state.

I do have it setup to only send a alert on when the Node goes down and reset when the node goes up. However when I look at the events for the node there is no warning event logged under events. If the node went into warning status I would think that a warning event would be logged. If I set a alert to trigger when the Node goes into Down our Warning status will both alerts be reset when the Node goes into up status?
Thanks for your response-GB

Hello,
Have you trigered an interface or are you perhaps monitoring some tunnels? which trigger these alarms.
gbrance
The node warning was tripped on a Cisco 4507R Switch. Right now I only have the Orion Alarms setup to trigger on Nodes. It isn't that big of deal and has not happened again after the one incident.

i'm monitoring i.e. Cisco 3548XL in the same LAN segment. sometimes they generate an UP-alarm without sending any DOWN-notice or events.
strange behaviour.
