TransformExpression.... so what's the syntax?

I'm running APM 3.5, and I've got an SNMP Monitor that helpfully spits out a value in TimeTicks (for an APC UPS). Now I would obviously prefer to have this in minutes so I can not only display a friendly value in the alerts but also can easily set the Warning and Critical Thresholds (which need to be tailored to each UPS based on model and load).

So I notice a field called TransformExpression, I assume this would allow me to convert TimeTicks to Minutes with a mathmatical equation. If this is the case what is the proper syntax? Since I am running a back version of APM, the help pages and show more information page links are outdated and I can't seem to find the documentation for my version.

And no, I'm not just going to set up a poller in Universal Device Poller and then a Transform Poller and alerting off that, I like APM for these kind of things since I have a quicker polling interval for the application vs boosting the polling interval for the node and it's much easier to have other staff to modify thresholds through the webpage since I forbid them to touch Alert Manager (don't try talking me out of it!).

Hello,

The Data Transform feature was introduced in APM 4.2. In APM 3.5 this feature isn't implemented.

So then what does the TransformExpression field do and why is it there?

Do you use standard template (shipped in APM 3.5) or is it template downloaded from thwack? The templates created in APM 4.2 contains TransformExpression field but the code in older version of APM doesn't work with this field.

Lukas is correct. This functionality was not added until APM 4.2. It's likely you've imported a newer template that's added the additional field to the database, but none of the supporting code is in place to provide this functionality in APM 3.5. I recommend you upgrade to APM 4.2, or sign-up to participate in the SAM 5.0 Release Candidate program if you need take advantage of this feature.

the syntax as follow:

if you want to convert data from bytes to megabytes you use

XTOMega(${Statistic})

it will change the bytes into megabytes
