Newbie question on using SAM to monitor CIFS/NFS shares...

We have Orion and primarily use it for Network monitoring.  However, I'd like to find a way to monitor the availability of CIFS or NFS shares on storage appliances (NetApp) or servers.

Came across this which makes me think it's possible with SAM plus some customization.

First, anyone think there's a better SolarWinds-based approach?  And secondly, can SAM slide into my Orion environment?  Do I need a dedicated poller for this? Presumably would just need to enable the licensing.

SAM is installed atop your existing Orion server. You should not need an additional polling engine unless you are already approaching a capacity limit on your existing server. The template you reference should suit your needs perfectly. Simply import it into SAM, assign it to your node(s), and adjust the path and credentials accordingly.
