SNMPAUTHFAIL

Hi,

I recently enabled syslogs and traps for our Solarwinds server, right away I noticed one particular switch continually gets an error.

The error is:

SNMPAUTHFAIL - Access attempted by unauthorized NMS

A Google search tells me this is common with the SG-300 line of switches, yet there was no definitive way of troubleshooting except for wipe the switch.

IE: problems with SNMP on SG-300-10 - Cisco Support Community

Has anyone else seen this before? Ports 514 and 162 are flowing and it reports normally otherwise, but frankly it is reporting every 5-10 mins and my logs are getting convoluted:(.

The switch may not have SNMP configured or it may be configured incorrectly OR someone it hitting it from another device with an incorrect SNMP string.

In our equipment we specify which IP's are able to access SNMP and whenever an IP that isn't allowed hits them they send out a similar message.

Thank you for the info, I believe it is reporting correctly so the config appears to be correct, but with that I have taken your advice and specified the IP of the server...will wait and see if any new error messages show up.
