What is the point of NetPath?

What in the world is the point of NetPath?

Every end-point I create always states that it can't give me information about the hops in-between the probe (internal server) and a destination (i.e. web site). Great, it shows me the source and the destination with a perfect circle in-between.

Maybe it wasn't intended for the end user and only ISPs?

On order for NetPath to function, it requires ICMP Type 11 (Time Exceeded) messages to be allowed back to the agent. If those are being blocked, NetPath unable to locate the intermediate nodes. Can you see what TraceTCP shows?

I get time-outs. I did the same thing on our internal network which uses and it still doesn't report anything and traces show time-outs.

Unfortunately then it seems something on your internal network is blocking or altering the probes. I know some firewalls can be configured to block certain TTL values.

well tracert shows 10 hops and all giving information. NetPath states 6 didn't respond. If there was an internal issue, wouldn't Tracert fail as well?

I'm not seeing the hops in NetPath that I do with Tracert. I'm wondering if it's an issue with the ICMP Type. I've entered Type 11, but is there a Code that needs to be entered as well? We've opened Type 8; Code 255 for normal ICMP traffic. At this point, I can't get an answer what the Code should be. So, Type 11; Code ??.
