Our monitoring environment requires us to set-up an alert for each system. So, if we have 100 systems, we have 100 CPU alerts set-up. We also have several teams supporting the various systems who need the alerts.
Our goal is to use group email distributions for email alerts. By doing this, it takes the onus of the operations team whenever someone needs to be added or deleted from receiving an alert. The group owner of the system would manager the email group on their exchange server.
However, there are time when individual email addresses are tied to alerts. I have found that if you use the Action Manager tab under Manage alerts, you can change many alerts all at once.
You simply select the alert by checking its box and select Edit Action. You then select whatever section of the alerts which needs to be updated. In this case, it would be Recipients by clicking the To box. Enter all of the email addresses which need the alerts. One thing I found is that this is not a single addition but a full replacement so you need to add all of the email addresses.
You can also use this to other components of an alert such as Time of Day / Schedules, SMTP server, etc...
I do not know how to make a formal request but it would be nice if SolarWinds could add a few more Grouping for Action Manager. Grouping such as Responsible Team, Owner and Alert Limitation category would be helpful. By doing adding these groupings, this would make the process of updating the alerts using these procedure a little easier.
