High Receive Discards with Cisco Concentrator

Orion is reporting high receive discards on our Cisco concentrators. 100,000+ a day per interface. Cisco says the problem is on the Orion end. Anyone else experiencing these problems? Any recommendations?

We were running 7.22, upgraded to 7.3 and showing same issues.

You must have gotten a poor rep w/ Cisco. Discards are reported via SNMP on the interface...has nothing to do w/ Orion.

What kind of traffic levels are you pushing on the interfaces?

Do a search in this Forum for "discard". There were some posts regarding discards in switches.

Yes we see the same problem.

My network guys assure me that we do not have a problem.

We are reporting about 1000 receive discards per hour.

My 3030 Concentrator shows drops on the Internet interface as well.
I'm thinking the internet traffic which hits this interface and is being dropped by the filter-ruleset could be counted by the SNMP MIB as dropped traffic. In this case the traffic is being dropped legitametly.

It is not strange to see that many discards on a VPN concentrator. What you wanna do it take a sampling and find out what your normal amount of discards is and make that your baseline.

The nature of VPN and the way it negotiates encryption and decryption can cause massive amounts of discards. There is REALLY nothing to worry about.

I was going to post the same question here. My 3030s are showing a ton of discards as well. We are running the 4.7.1 release. It's still in pilot phase there really isnt much traffic on these as of yet.

BB
